First Announcement and Call for Papers


Itasca is pleased to announce that the 4th Itasca Symposium on Applied Numerical Modeling will take place on March 7 - 9, 2016 in Lima, Perú.  This symposium is an expanded continuation of the successful series of FLAC/DEM Symposia held in 2008, 2011 and 2013.  For the first time, the conference will focus on practical applications of all numerical modeling software developed by Itasca and it will address a variety of topics including the following:

  • Mining engineering geomechanics (open pit and underground)
  • Civil engineering geomechanics
  • Oil and gas geomechanics
  • Hydrogeology for mining and civil projects
  • Microseismicity
  • Power generation
  • Manufacturing and process engineering

Call for Papers

Participants are invited to submit papers related to the use of the Itasca software, including FLAC, UDEC, PFC, FLAC3D, 3DEC, KUBRIX Geo, KUBRIX BlockRanger, MINEDW, and InSite. Instructions for submitting a paper can be found on the above referenced link. Abstracts will be accepted in English, Spanish and Portuguese; it will be required that full papers are in English.

Accepted papers will be presented at the symposium and/or published in the symposium proceedings in English. Presentations will be accepted in English, Spanish or Portuguese.

The best overall paper at the Symposium will be given the Peter Cundall Award and will be presented as one of the Symposium keynote addresses.
