The Itasca Software CD

What is the Itasca CD?

It is the CD-ROM from which all Itasca software is installed. It is updated each time a new release or code upgrade is completed or added to the CD (see next question).

What is the CD Version?

Because its contents change with each code release, CD is serialized, to provide tracking information and to assist in customer support. The serial number identifies the version of the Itasca CD. The number is incremented each time a code is newly added or upgraded on the CD. The current version is 26A.

How do I identify the version number of my CD?

1) Look at the release window; the version number is written there.
2) Using Windows Explorer (or any file system viewing utility), check the volume name of the disk; the version number is contained in the name of the volume.

Are the changes made from version to version of the CD documented?

Yes. The "readme.txt" file in the root of the CD contains basic user instructions for the CD and, in its last section, has a modifications list.

Is the most up-to-date version of my code on the CD?

The version of the code on the CD is a release version, which means that has gone through the full QA procedure. As this procedure is very lengthy it is not performed each time a minor bug is fixed. Because of this it is very likely that a newer version of the code is available from the Download section of this site, which contains all updates made since the codes was released. This is true even if you have just purchased the code. It is always useful to check this site for code updates.

Can I update my CD?

Yes. Itasca will freely provide the latest CD to users on request. In some cases, this is advisable (see next question).

Should I update my CD?

Quite possibly. When a new Windows operating system appears, it is a good idea to contact Itasca to be sure that your purchased code can be installed on the new operating system from your current CD. If it cannot, the only recourse is to obtain a later CD that has been verified to install your code on the new operating system. Be aware that for versions earlier than the current version, according to the Itasca Code Support policy, support for previous versions extends 12 months from the release of a new version. For this reason, it is possible, depending on the date sequence of release, that previous versions will not be supported on new operating systems. However, users are always welcome to confirm the support status of their software at any time.
