Determining a structure-particle interaction using PFC3D (Part II of II)A.G. Polson & N.F. du Plooy ABSTRACT: As part of the qualification program for the PBMR nuclear reactor, the interaction between the Centre Reflector and a surrounding pebble bed was investigated. This paper follows on Part I by McKellar (2008) and outlines the work undertaken in PFC3D to determine the 3D movement of the cylindrical walls of the Centre Reflector, as they interact with the surrounding circulating pebble bed. These walls were controlled by means of an inverted compound pendulum formulation that was calibrated using the 3DEC characterization, as discussed in Part I. Some of the challenges encountered during the parallelization of the computation are also presented. Available in Continuum and Distinct Element Numerical Modeling in Geo-Engineering - 2008 |
