Hossein Hakami — rock mechanics, experimental studies, numerical modeling, in-situ measurements. Dr. Hossein Hakami has carried out research in such areas as laboratory triaxial testing and de-stressing methods related to mining operations. As a consulting engineer, he has worked on rock mechanics investigations related to dams as well as hard-rock tunneling. For the last few years, his assignments on sub-surface structure investigations primarily have involved numerical analyses.

Diego Mas Ivars — engineering geology. Mr. Diego Mas Ivars is a mining engineer specializing in engineering geology. He has worked in the fields of geophysics, applied rock mechanics and numerical modeling, and has conducted numerical, laboratory and field research regarding the characterization of hydro-mechanical behavior of fractured rock masses. He currently is involved in the development of a robust methodology, based on the DEM numerical technique, for improving the capability to predict the deformability, yield and failure of rock masses, with application to cave mining, as part of his Ph.D. studies.
