The purpose of the study was to provide technical support to the blasting area of an open pit mine. The problem analyzed is related to the non-conformity of the design berms observed in the mine and the need to understand the relative contribution of the structural condition of the rock mass and the design of the blasts to the final situation of the affected benches.

Dr. Goswami started his career specializing in the design of underground caverns and tunnels. Thereafter, he diversified in the field of geotechnical engineering, which involved numerical simulation of soil liquefaction. He has worked on uncertainty quantification and development of a validation metric for comparison of geo-centrifuge experiments to simulated results. Additionally, Dr. Goswami has an interest in the applications of machine learning algorithms to solve complex problems in civil/mining engineering. He is currently working on the applications of various statistical tools and machine learning paradigms to develop robust tools for slope stability assessments in the mining industry.
Based on Dr. Goswami’s expertise in soil liquefaction simulations, he has been selected as a reviewer for the journals Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering and Journal of Geotechnical and Geo-environmental Engineering.
